You know you don’t have to do that, right?

-

I've always wanted to do everything.

I'm the guy who watches a documentary on riding trains through Sri Lanka and immediately declares: 'I'm doing this.'

My mum always teased me for immediately wanting the things I resonate with (she helps ground me).

I've seen and done a lot.

But I've also been frequently weighed down by the sense of obligation attached to wanting many things.

You inevitably invite many 'shoulds' into your life when you want a lot.

I want to write and run retreats and do podcasts and record videos and lead workshops and write many books and novels and....

Etc etc.

Because I create so many possible avenues, obligations creep in.

Today, I remind myself to stop doing this. Often.

Focus relentlessly on the small handful of things that benefit most from your attention.

For me, it's writing.

I'm driven by helping as many people as possible.

That's my big why. Reaching more people. Writing enables this.

So, running workshops sounds great, but I only get to reach 7 people that way.

A book can reach tens of thousands.

Plus, I'm just better at writing books and courses than leading groups.

I drop the shoulds.

And so 'should' you.

Shoulds stall you and add unnecessary pressure. Pressure diminishes your spark for the things that matter.

What matters to you, and what 'shoulds' need to go?

All it takes is a decision based on truth.

If you feel a heavy obligation to write, don't write. At least for now.

But if you if you know you must write, then stop reading this and plant your butt on a chair and write.

Oh, and have my Online Writing Alchemy course be your guide, so you save potentially years of writing stuff people struggle to resonate with.
