You don't need to know what to write

-

I spent twenty minutes today avoiding writing because I didn't have a clear idea.

I checked my emails, organised my desk, and made another cup of tea. Anything but opening a blank document.

This still happens when I forget my writing fundamentals, even after years of doing this daily.

Finally, I opened the document and typed: ‘I spent twenty minutes today avoiding writing...’

The words came out garbled and awkward at first. As I continued tapping keys, they started flowing. Ideas I didn't know I had began connecting.

That shy but wise part of me, which knows what to do, finally stepped from behind the curtain.

Of course!

You don't find your words by thinking with furrowed brow.

You find those little suckers by writing.

And here's the big one:

Be willing to write something that doesn't make sense to get to something that does.

Let the messy thoughts tumble out. Follow the tangents. Most of it will be rubbish, but buried in that mess will be the thing you actually needed to say.

You always know more than it might initially feel.

You'll know when you hit it because it will simply feel right.

Trust yourself. Your instincts about what resonates are better than any formula.

The act of writing unlocks the writer in you because in that moment, you really are a writer.

Most people wait for inspiration before they write. But inspiration happens after you start, not before.

If you want to master this, showing up consistently and trusting the process, my Online Writing Alchemy course shows you exactly how to build this muscle.

You learn how to write with impact while growing the most valuable asset in today's world:

Your personal brand.

Get it here and stop waiting for permission to write.

The words are there.

You just have to start to find them.
