Writing is not writing

I wrote a book! Releases soon...

One of my subscribers wrote to me yesterday and said that although writing is important, speaking is the most powerful skill.

Yes, speaking well is important.

But, don't miss the point about what writing is:

Writing is not writing.

No one gives two s#its that you write.

Writers think they're something because they are 'writers.' Ooh, sounds so intellectual and romantic.

Sixteen years of writing hundreds of thousands of blog posts taught me that I'm not actually a writer.

I'm a storyteller, a persuader, and a few other things. I just happen to use these cool things called letters on a page as my METHOD to communicate.

And the more I write, the better I get at telling stories and persuading.

You can be the most articulate talker in the world, but have the room slowly empty out with nothing but bad reviews at the end of it.

When I both wrote AND published AND relied on my posts actually doing well, I was FORCED to get good at writing (read: communicating, persuading, connecting and resonating).

That's a pretty damn important skill to have, as anyone who wants to make an impact or run a business or make money will know.

In over a decade, I have not found a better way to master communication than by writing short daily posts and asking...

Why did that do well?

Why did that suck?

Then, adapt.

Writing allows you to edit, adjust and re-order sentences. You can't do that when you're speaking to a live audience.

As such, writing is a tool for moulding how you communicate, day after day, until you get GREAT at it.

This skill will, of course, transfer into how you speak in person.

One stone, several birds.

That's why writing well is more powerful than speaking well.

If you'd like to learn how to translate writing daily posts into job security in an uncertain world, you'll love my next book release:

'The Never Retired Writer: How I built a life of freedom through words'

This isn't only for older people. It's for anyone who wants to use writing to create income, protect themselves from AI taking jobs, and ultimately achieve freedom.

This is for you, whether you write fiction or non-fiction.

It releases on Amazon this Saturday, April 25th, at 9am ET. It will be $0.99 for 3 days, then jump to $9.99. So make sure you grab this as it's released.

Peace and letters,

Alex
