What's even the point of getting nervous?

-

I was interviewed on a podcast today.

I've done many of these but still feel slightly nervous before they begin.

I remember my first podcast over a decade ago when I was interviewed about my illustration blog, Ape on the Moon.

I was a nervous wreck. I remember having to walk circles outside before starting.

I've gotten waaaay better.

Now it's just a little tingle in my chest.

I was sitting on a park bench reflecting on exactly why this is before the call.

Practice plays a big part, yes.

But what's actually happening at the psychological level when we get nervous about things?

You fear the outcome.

You don't want to look bad. You want to get it right.

Over the years, I've learned to flip this insecurity on its head.

How do you fear the outcome less?

It's about seeing the beauty in imperfection.

You are imperfect. Good.

Your performance will be imperfect. Good.

The outcome will be imperfect and a little messy. Triple good.

Imperfection is beautiful.

It's understanding this that sits at the heart of performing well.

Thinking like this gets MUCH easier when you go through the process I went through to rewire how you think about stress.

Untethered Mind is the course for this.

The course guides you through a sequence of insights about your mind that helps you, very quickly, still your mind.

With a still mind it's easier to see things rationally and calmly.

(No more spiralling out of control thoughts).

With this as a foundation for your mindset, your performance for things that make you nervous improves considerably.

(You won't regret it)
