- We all have this shared experience
We all have this shared experience
And knowing this makes it all so much easier
I used to think writing was a rather unforgiving experience.
It could often feel isolating.
And I’d wonder whether my distaste for working in teams was irrational.
But, as I near the completion of my latest book (The Never-Retired Writer), I had a realisation.
I remembered all those times when I felt undervalued as a writer.
Hours put into posts that no one seemed to care for.
Literally hundreds of pieces of content that flopped.
But here I am, about to finish my ninth book, after a string of books that people continue to thank me for writing.
The realisation was this:
Everyone, no matter what they choose to pursue in life, goes through a shared experience.
None of us are immune.
We all need to go through moments of feeling undervalued and underappreciated if we want anything worth pursuing.
It could be your ideal partner.
It could be your dream job or your preferred income.
If we rarely come face-to-face with this discomfort, we’re probably playing it too safe.
Courage means opening up to the possibility that you will feel judged or disrespected.
We are all connected this way, and that is reassuring.
Today, I expect to feel undervalued. Frequently. I still do, all. The. Damn. Time.
But I know it’s part of the process.
It’s an inevitable feature of the process of getting what you want in life...
Whether you’re alone or in a group.
So, to get what you want, know this:
Do NOT think that by feeling unappreciated in your journey, this experience is somehow unique to you.
It is not inherently bad. It is inherently part of the freaking deal.
Just don’t drag out the painful part of the experience. It can be short-lived.
Know that countless crazies just like you and I are going through moments of feeling undervalued.
It is the price you pay for greatness.
Know this, but then pick yourself up...
...and keep going.
By the way, there is a way I learned to quickly replace unhelpful thoughts like this with a feeling of energised determination.
Don’t let your opportunities escape you because you stewed, took things personally and gave up.
Our thoughts can be managed through an improved understanding of how the mind works (no forced tactics, just pure understanding).
Untethered Mind is the course for you if you want to learn this in a matter of hours.
When you receive the insights the course gives you, you’ll find those moments of frustration on your journey quickly fade.
Best,
Alex
