How I learned to stop struggling and start moving people to action
I was having tapas with a friend here in Warsaw, a data analyst in a corporation.
She was bored with her job and found it repetitive.
So I said with a whip of my arm, ‘Yo buddy! You gotta get outta there!‘
(Well, I thought it)
She wanted to branch out into the attention economy.
That means creating content online that grabs people’s attention.
If you’re a writer, a storyteller, a brand-builder, a Youtuber, or a coach - you’re in the attention economy.
She was keen to find people growing their brands online but needing some assistance with creating their content.
But she didn’t know how to impress the right people to get hired.
The resume doesn’t cut it these days like it did forty years ago.
If you want to go far in this economy, whether trying to get hired, sell your services, sell products or make an impact, you need to know how to move people to act.
You need to give people something they want.
Years of growing my own audience, creating clients and selling products have shown me that there are 4 things most people really, really want:
To save time.
To make more money.
To increase their well-being.
To increase their status.
Understanding this marked a serious shift in how my ideas resonated.
My most viral articles, for example, touch on some or all of these 4 points.
So, for my friend to get hired, she’d need to communicate how her help would do any one - or all - of these 4 things.
The more, the better.
The same applies to whatever you’re creating.
Focus on the self-interest of those you want to connect and resonate with.
Paint a picture of how you’ll do this for them.
That’s how you save years of frustration trying to move others.
These 4 will get you there.
If you see the value of consistent writing to help move other people to buy your products or take action, you’ll want to ensure your writing actually gets read.
There are 16 secrets to powerful online writing, and I share them all in detail for you in my course Online Writing Alchemy.
