Turning crap days into good ones (fast)
The soapy hand dilemma
I couldn’t believe it.
The water wasn’t running.
I stood there in the bright blue glare of the cafe bathroom, hands covered in soap under the tap.
Nothing.
I was just thinking about how efficient things were in Poland.
But now I was considering dipping my hands in a toilet bowl.
Then I remembered I hadn’t finished my water bottle, which I’d left on my table.
I went out, grabbed it with slick hands, and resumed my hand wash outside.
I don’t always have fallback options like this.
But I rarely allow a crap event turn into a bad day anymore.
I used to have days that seemed cursed from wake-up to sundown.
But now, I know that my annoyance doesn’t actually come from events.
Yes, it might seem like they do.
But, in reality, everything that seems ‘bad’ about a day is just what it feels like to think those thoughts.
If I continue thinking about how bad things are, I will feel the feeling of those thoughts.
The minute I think of other things, and redirect my focus to good things, I feel better. My day improves, just like that.
I know this is true because I’ve had things happen to me that turned out to be a blessing rather than a curse.
My mindset shifted, and I went from having a crap day to a great day.
It’s in how I think.
Not in what happens.
Truly getting this seems minor, but it’s saved me literally weeks of wasted time spent fuming and in rumination.
If you’d like closer guidance from me to cement this idea for good, you’ll enjoy my course: Untethered Mind.
The course helps you master turning bad days into good ones rapidly. When you do, you’ll save more time and have more energy throughout the day.
Peace,
Alex
