This one mindset myth is keeping you stuck

I had a guy tell me he’d be more confident and more productive if he could just fix his self-identity.

His identity made him worry more.

His identity said he was the kind of guy who was fearful.

And so, until he could fix this part, he’d be okay.

There is some truth in this, because a thought defines our feelings.

When we continually believe the thought that says we aren’t good at this or that, or that we’re somehow inadequate, we will struggle.

Because that’s the power of a thought.

And a thought can influence our identity.

(A thought IS identity)

So, where’s the myth?

The myth is that we need a ‘better identity’ to be a better person.

Crafting a better identity or ‘self-image’ was popularised by Maxwell Maltz in his 1960 book ‘Psycho-Cybernetics.’

He said that we need to spend time visualising a better self each day so that our identity changes.

When our identity improves, we feel better about ourselves. We’re no longer stuck.

But I think it does more harm than good.

How? Because we can’t think our way to a new self. That just fills our mind with more thoughts to juggle like a dancing monkey.

His approach implies there’s something broken about you that needs fixing.

You do not need fixing.

It’s work, and work creates pressure, and that’s why it doesn’t work.

The solution?

Stop worrying about identity.

Like trying to chase eye spiders by looking directly at them, you won’t catch it.

Your real identity sits beneath human-created illusions.

Your real identity is something far more special than we can even conceive.

It appears when we let go.

It appears when we stop thinking about how there’s something wrong with us.

It appears when we stop trying so hard.

It appears when we’re enjoying ourselves, in the throes of action.

To avoid decades more unnecessary self-doubt, you need to have this idea cemented in your mind.

When it really sticks, you will have no need to go back to the way it was before.

To do this, you will want to run through the process I designed in my course, based on years of my own anxieties and, eventually, a breakthrough.

In Untethered Mind you will receive insights that make this idea click (fast) so you can live life from your true identity that keeps you energised and being your real self.
