This is your captain speaking. I’m afraid we’ve had to...
. . .
The landing gear lowered with a distant rumble through the floor.
We were just seconds from touching down.
But something wasn’t right.
The plane was juddering, swaying and jolting in messy turbulence. I gripped my armrests harder.
Suddenly, the engines roared. The plane turned its nose to the sky.
Aborted landing.
We’d have to do a go-around above London.
A few years ago, such an incident on a recent flight to visit family in England would have sent me spiralling.
Dry mouth, sweating, bug eyes.
Initially, I was concerned.
But I didn’t spiral.
My mindset training kicked into autopilot.
Instead of panicking, I slowed my breathing.
I saw things for what they were, not what I THOUGHT they were.
Big difference.
And yet...
Such a TINY difference. A tiny shift in behaviour.
That’s the difference between deep-seated flying fear and being there and being okay.
Understanding where my stress was coming from (me, not the flight) made all the difference.
And it’s made all the difference in every other area of my life as well.
If you want to shift your understanding of the mind as I did, to enjoy less stress, you’ll want my Untethered Mind course if you haven’t already picked it up.
Untethered Mind distils ten years of my own mindset training into a short reading experience that lifts your anxieties in a matter of hours.
In doing so, things that used to panic you no longer seem like such a big deal. And that really is a big deal.
