The weird way to build your confidence fast

The real flex is going to a cafe by yourself and reading a book without looking at your phone.

This shared note got many likes last week.

Many resonated with this because something so simple can be such a brazen and unusual act in our modern world.

I love to write short like this because these little idea nuggets point to what engages my readers most.

They’re like little beeps from a metal detector saying, ‘There’s something here!’

That’s why short-form writing through Substack notes and tweets can be such a rich resource. Not only to give me ideas for longer posts and essays but for potential books and products.

For example, the above note about going to a cafe got me thinking about creating a 30-day challenge thing where students do something like that every day for a month.

One day, they’d be reading for twenty minutes by themselves in a cafe, and another day, they’d spend half an hour cloud-watching in the park.

I know that confidence is one area many of you guys tell me you need help with.

And others need help coming up with fresh ideas for writing (and creating).

So this program could combine both.

It would be about nurturing creative mindfulness.

You’d do these little challenges, develop confidence, but also use each mini-experience to fuel new writing or creation ideas.

So, two things here:

  1. Write short things often and publish those things often. They will fuel your creative momentum and validate the best ideas you can expand on.

  2. Does a 30-day challenge like this sound interesting to you, especially if combined with 30 days of journaling on what you find?
