The time has come to choose yourself.

When I was 19, I moved into a student accommodation in London, ready to spend the next three years studying Geography.

As much as I loved learning about glacial retreat, earthquakes and slope creep, I can’t say I’ve made much use of those studies.

I studied real estate in Reading, UK, for another two years after that.

And yet, here I am, pounding keys in my little Airbnb apartment in Warsaw sixteen years later, doing nothing that has much to do with geography or real estate.

I was an illustrator for eight years, and then a coach and writer.

I’ve made my living doing things I learned from courses and YouTube, completely from scratch.

It’s now given me total freedom, and tens of thousands read my posts and books each year.

But I could have started five years sooner.

Or less.

I would have, had I known that times have changed.

I would have, had I given myself permission to break free.

We don’t need formal education in stuffy universities anymore.

We don’t need to go the traditional, expected route.

We can go our own way.

The Internet made all this possible.

Creating and publishing our ideas and stories online have become our resumés.

People trust experts less and ‘influencers’ more.

People pay money to work with me, and I have zero accreditations in what I help them with.

I just write about what interests me and listen to the problems people say they have.

Regular jobs are becoming extinct.

Choosing yourself, getting yourself out there and owning your message is now the way.

You could say that 5 years of university study was a waste of time. I guess it was in a way. But it confirmed that this wasn’t the route I wanted or would need.

Degrees, accreditations and job interviews are no longer the final barriers to success.

The only thing that stops you is having faith that you can figure out how to make yourself successful as a creator.

The best way to start?

Write and publish your words every day for 30 days.

This will give you the confidence to know you can be consistent and can affect the hearts and minds of others.
