The secret to high energy that most miss
. . .
Imagine a glass of water with a fine layer of residue at the bottom.
Left undisturbed, the water is clear.
Light passes through it lucidly.
But stir the glass, and the residue swirls, clouding the water into murk.
This is the analogy I often use with my clients about how our minds work.
The residue is our thoughts.
We stir our minds when we take our thoughts seriously and try to interfere with the thoughts that will inevitably appear.
'What if they don't like me?'
'I'm not earning enough money.'
'I wish I didn't make that weird noise in that conversation.'
We interfere by thinking more and more in an attempt to assert control over our lives.
But this is a problem.
Because to perform well in life, we need stillness.
When the mind is still, we open up to an intelligence that sits beneath the murk of overactive thinking (that would be the light passing through).
You know this to be true because your best thoughts come when you aren't trying to think so hard. For example, when you are in the bath, walking or just in flow.
So, Alex, how the heck am I supposed to progress through life if I have to stop thinking?
My answer:
Think of good thinking as a physical rather than an intellectual act.
When you want to write, you write. You don't think about writing.
Thinking actually plays a tiny role in any creative endeavour.
You let the good thoughts come to you. You don't force thoughts and apply pressure.
The most intelligent people are willing to think less. When they do, they think right.
Most people do not understand this and they go through life attracting problems like they're sticky tape to hungry flies.
We feel we need to hold on tightly and intellectualise all our perceived challenges.
When we interfere, we become more stupid and less effective.
When things get challenging, we need the discipline to let go.
And this only comes out of understanding how our minds work best.
We were designed to imagine and innovate. It's what makes us human. This is how our thoughts are best used - when we're calm and open to creative insights and visions.
But we were not designed to worry.
Worry happens when we misuse our minds.
We know we're doing it because we feel like crap. Time to stop.
Find the resilience in yourself to interfere less, be more physical, and to stay open.
You may be surprised how this turns your life around.
If you're ready to stop stirring the glass and start experiencing clarity, focus, and resilience, the Untethered Mind course is here to guide you.
The course guides you through a series of insights that will rewire your mind with this new understanding. When this happens, you'll find your work, relationships and happiness blossom (I'm serious).
Toodloo,
Alex
