The safety nets are disappearing (build your own)
What I'm doing
'The old world is dying.'
I was jolted out of my deep birthday coffee trance.
But the bespectacled guy sitting at the table next to me was right.
Job security is slipping away like sand through fingers.
Companies end the careers of thousands overnight to boost their quarterly numbers.
Politicians promise a lot, but often seem to serve their own interests.
The economy is built on borrowed money that could collapse tomorrow.
This is to say nothing of AI and what's about to change because of it in the coming years.
If you're still waiting for someone else to secure your future, you're living in a fantasy.
The institutions our parents relied on have abandoned us.
But…
This could be the greatest opportunity of our lifetime.
When old systems crumble, those who build their own fortresses amidst the chaos will thrive.
Don't be left out in the cold in your pyjamas.
I've been building my fortress through something most people overlook: a community of readers who know, trust, and pay attention to what I say.
I started this a long time ago without realising how valuable this would become.
Building and nurturing my connections is no longer a 'nice to do'. It's a must for me. It's my guarantee that no matter what economic storm hits, I have options.
As Robert Greene said, "The more you are relied on, the more freedom you have."
When you provide value like solving problems, sharing insights, and telling meaningful stories, people remember. They become invested in your success.
They'll pay you for things like courses, art, books, and coaching. They will spread your message and support you. And they will recommend you.
This is becoming the most sturdy currency: trust and attention.
I chose writing as my vehicle. Every email builds this asset.
It's location-independent, recession-proof, and gets stronger with time.
This is on offer for you too.
Share what you know and what interests you. Document your journey. Help people solve problems you've already solved.
But many get all flustered about this, thinking: 'Who would want to listen to what I have to say?'
Know this:
No one has had your life experiences in the unique way you have had them. No one.
You have a perspective many need, and you'll only discover what this looks, tastes and feels like when you start getting your ideas out there.
Even a small following of people who value what you offer is worth more than any job title.
Start building your fortress. And it starts with one post.
If you'd like to accelerate the process by learning all the secrets I've discovered about how to attract more readers to your writing, you might find my Online Writing Alchemy course helpful.
Today is my birthday (41!), so I'm offering a quick, one-day-only (closes tomorrow, Friday, 2pm ET) birthday sale for Online Writing Alchemy.
So, instead of $397, the price is only $147 for one day.
This is a discrete, limited sale to help those of you who need the course but have held back, and it will only be around for a number of hours.
