The easy way to get great at writing
. . .
When I started writing blog posts, I was overwhelmed.
A thousand pieces of advice about how to write well left my head spinning.
When I tried bringing in these tips into my next post, I’d end up even more confused.
Eventually, I learned to take one simple tip and just apply that one.
Write to my younger self?
Try that in the next post.
Write so that an 11-year-old could understand it?
Try just that in my next post.
Focus on solving one problem per post?
Apply that.
As I did this for each consecutive post, I found the response to my writing trending upwards.
I got a few more comments than usual.
A few more likes.
Not every time, but the trend was upward.
Over time, I found myself adopting good writing strategies without thinking of them.
Tips became part of my muscle memory.
So, if you feel overwhelmed about writing, do this:
Find a writing tip that makes sense to you.
Apply that one tip to your next article or chapter.
Now your head isn’t swimming. You’re just focused, and there’s less pressure.
Take this tip, for example:
Write a post to someone you really care about.
What have they been struggling with that you can help them with in one small way?
When applied, just this one tip alone will help you write with more intention and sincerity, transforming your writing.
And, of course, more than just one person will click when they can see you really care.
Apply one tip at a time.
If you’d like a place to refer to my top 16 tips for outstanding writing in a little more depth, you can grab a copy of Online Writing Alchemy course.
These tips can save you from years of second guessing. Run through the course and apply one tip at a time.
You don’t need to become a master overnight.
But you will progress rapidly when you take one step at a time.
