The beautiful war of attrition

(the mindset you need for 2025)

Attrition is about making small, consistent impacts that don’t feel noticeable in the moment but, over time, lead to remarkable results.

Writing for years is one example of this for me.

It’s the backbone of everything I do and has rewarded me well.

These quiet acts are not in themselves flashy or dramatic. You won’t always feel like you’re moving the needle.

But the persistence of doing what matters, day after day, will create things of dramatic significance for you.

It’s practically a guarantee.

Think of a river. Tiny grains of sand, carried by the flow, shape the stones beneath the surface. Over time, those small, little grinds create smooth, polished stones.

This is the perspective to bring into 2025.

The beautiful war of attrition is about showing up and continuing on, even when the results aren’t immediately apparent.

And, because you can’t see it, it’s all about your mindset.

What is the one effort that counts for you this year?

Here’s the approach I use and share with my clients:

  1. Identify what matters (that would benefit from you doing it over and over again).

  2. Do that thing with a relentless degree of happy consistency.

  3. Continually bring awareness to the task, finding ways to maintain the fun you have doing it.

This is how meaningful change happens. It’s how you develop muscle memory that will have others gawping at your brilliance.

It’s not through massive leaps and overnight successes, but through steady, deliberate effort.

Have faith in this, and you will see rewards sooner than later.

If you’ve ever felt like your mind gets in the way of that kind of consistency, my course Untethered Mind will help. It’s about learning to quiet the noise, leaving space for what matters.

Here’s to your beautiful war of attrition in 2025!
