The 50km cylinder floating through space

-

Ever wondered what it would be like to step into a 50 km-long cylinder floating in space that contains a dead alien world that's millions of years old?

Yes? I knew it!

Me too.

I'm currently reading a thought-provoking book by Sci-fi legend Arthur C Clarke: Rendezvous with Rama.

But even cooler is that I get to call reading fiction like this 'research.'

I'm studying great science-fiction writers to improve my craft.

I'm combining lots of reading with writing regular flash stories on my Story Cabin substack for now.

The aim is to make each story 1% better. That's it.

Write the damn thing. Try to improve one little aspect of it compared to my last story.

And hit publish, even though I know about four people will read it.

It's fun working in the dark (when few are watching) because I know I'm not competing with more established writers just yet.

I'm absorbing them and getting as good as I can before hopefully a few more readers start gathering.

This is how you actually get good at something:

Strategic (and fun) study + deliberate practice (without overthinking what everyone else is thinking about you).

Get inspired by the best in your craft, write stuff, aim to improve each time, repeat.

Most people either consume OR create, but never combine them systematically.

That's the difference between hoping to improve someday and actually improving every week.

P.S. My Let Go of the S#it That Weakens You course is available today for $197 (normally $297) if you need help caring less about working in the dark with four readers watching.

The course guides you through various exercises that break down the emotional charge certain beliefs about you and other people have over your ability to take action without fear.

Much love,

Alex
