Nobody starts as a good writer

Confident Writer starter course closes

I'm about to head out for a long road trip featuring car camping in forests and meadows across Eastern Europe.

I am nervous, to be honest. I still don't have half a clue what I'm doing.

I don't know if I'll encounter wild animals or if I'll park somewhere not allowed.

I'm heading north from Sofia, up through Bucharest, Transylvania, and possibly the Carpathians, and onwards.

This is how new things always start.

I get nervous. I fill in the gaps where knowledge is lacking.

I have to deal with that weird feeling of:

I should be excited about this, but I kind of just want to sit in an air-conditioned cafe and watch videos.

The same is true of starting anything I've developed into something.

Like when I started writing blogs.

I did not start as a good writer. No one does.

Every writer whose work you respect wrote hundreds of clunky, embarrassing, self-conscious articles before they became the person you follow.

The way through the bad stage is to publish more of the bad stuff, so you can hit the good stuff sooner.

That really is the price to pay. Putting out crap on the road to quality.

Most writers get this mindset backwards. They have high expectations of their work and quit when they don't see results soon enough.

They quit when the currency of writing crap was close to being cashed in for GOOD writing.

The Confident Writer is built to keep you moving through this murky starting phase.

It gives you a roadmap for everything you need to do, providing direction and motivation so you don't stall.

The 50-Day Writing Challenge gives you a fun daily prompt so you actually publish, and the modules cover finding your topics, your ideal reader, and how to write more clearly, so the bad stage gets shorter.

The course closes tomorrow, 4pm ET, Friday 3 July.

Peace and love,

Alex
