Need more focus?

(Create a simple habit system)

Many of you come to me with the same challenge:

Lack of focus.

You keep finding excuses to play Angry Birds in your underpants.

You’re not sure what direction to take.

You’re frustrated with not seeing results and continually changing your plans.

My solution has always been to do what I apply to my own life:

Create a better system.

The funny thing is, we’re actually ALL pros at systems.

We have all created the perfect system for the results we’re seeing in our lives.

Getting too fat?

System.

Keep getting shouted at?

System.

Writing more than most people?

System.

This is why we want to nudge our lives in the right direction again with a good system that works.

. . .

Yo Alex, what’s a system though?

A system is a repeatable, intentional set of actions designed to achieve a specific objective.

Maintaining good daily habits to achieve a specific result is one example of a good system.

But not all of us know what to prioritise.

What habits?

What suits me best?

What am I trying to create?

Rather than setting huge goals into the long, distant and muddy future, I prefer to focus on manageable chunks of time:

Three months is a great time frame to look at.

What would be a really cool thing to build, create or do in the next three months?

That’s the kind of objective you want to be looking at.

Suddenly, real results are within reach.

Figure out your main objective, what habits need to change and what need to be introduced.

Habits are awesome.

They make life easy because you’re focused on doing the same things day after day (this is fun because you will start seeing results when you do this).

Whether it’s writing, running, reaching out to new people, losing weight, or improving your speaking skills.

Here are some creative habits ideas (note they don’t all have to be daily habits)

  1. Spend 20 minutes daily on your creative hobby (e.g., writing, painting).

  2. Share one creative work publicly weekly (e.g., social media or a blog).

  3. Experiment with a new medium or style monthly.

  4. Watch one inspiring film, documentary, or performance weekly.

  5. Attend a local art or creative event monthly.

  6. Take 15 minutes daily to brainstorm or journal creative ideas.

  7. Complete one small creative project monthly.

  8. Dedicate two hours weekly to a passion project.

  9. Take a creative walk or drive weekly for inspiration.

  10. Organise your creative workspace weekly.

  11. Collaborate with another creative person once a quarter.

  12. Follow a daily creativity challenge for 30 days.

  13. Read one book on creativity or artistry per month.

  14. Reflect on what inspires you and why weekly.

This list is just a sneak peek from a variety of habit topic areas in The One System Method, my new mini-course launching for Ember subscribers who receive a new mini-course every month.

The course takes you through the full process of figuring out your highest priorities and narrowing in on the key habits and objectives to focus on in the next three months.

No matter what area of life you want to see improvements in, this course has you covered, helping you craft a water-tight system that will work for whatever you want to create.

This course is all about simplicity. Nail one habit. Stack the next, keep it all in one place for reference, and so on.

If you need focus, and you’re tired of not seeing results, you need this.

The course is releasing in a few days on January 21st for three days only - then it’s gone.

If you don’t want to miss this little launch, you’ll want to upgrade to Ember right now so you’re first in line.
