My plan didn't work out

-

It's 2am. I'm sweating, and the sun refuses to set.

I came to the Arctic Circle in Finland to escape the summer heat.

However, I now struggle to fall asleep because it's so hot and there's no fan.

And the mosquito bites from yesterday's hike keep me scratching.

A heat wave, here of all places?

Despite my best efforts to intelligently exert control over my life, reality often has other plans.

Planning ahead is obviously important. Very little would happen if I didn't.

Having goals and moving towards a vision is a good thing, and absolutely helps me stay focused.

But here's where people invite hardship:

They get upset if things don't unfold exactly as they envisioned.

If my satisfaction were entirely dependent on it being cool here in Finland, I'd be upset.

But I'm not. I'm a little uncomfortable, sure. But I'm not miserable.

In fact, if I stay aware, I can even find the disruption in my plans a source of curiosity, intrigue and even humour.

I allow for reality to NOT always match up with my expectations.

I can plan for a beautiful future, but here's the caveat:

I must understand that things might not look, feel, taste and sound exactly as I initially hoped.

In fact, this deviation from expectation is far more likely than any plan materialising exactly as I wanted it to.

So, I use my desire to point me in the direction of what I want.

I set the target.

But I give it space to unfold as it will, without needing it to be exactly as I wanted it.

Giving space allows for beauty.

My Untethered Mind course trains your mind to grasp less.

This is one of the most powerful and undervalued skills in an uncertain world.

When you can manage uncertainty with grace, there's very little you cannot handle.
