Laughing in the face of rejection
. . .
He looked me dead in the eye and said, 'Alex, you know. I don't like you.'
I held his gaze for two seconds.
And then I felt a tickle in my belly.
I started to laugh.
I laughed, and he looked away awkwardly.
My life continued on as normal.
I felt untouchable.
This may or may not have happened.
Either way, when we are unfazed by rejection, the world feels lighter and more welcoming.
Putting yourself out there no longer seems like carrying such a heavy weight.
Imagine yourself smiling in the face of rejection. Rejection by someone you wish liked you.
What would need to be true for you to laugh in the face of rejection?
Often, spending a little time visualising a reality where you find it funny when someone criticises you releases you from the fear of it.
And rejection by other humans is our number one fear outside of death itself.
But we've been conditioned to resist it and take it so so seriously.
It's what stops you from bringing new ideas and viewpoints to the world.
When you don't express yourself and you allow the concern of rejection to stunt you, no one wins.
Acclimatise yourself to the reality that being disliked really isn't the big deal you think it is.
It's conditioning.
And we can un-condition ourselves to this by imagining a reality in which we are unfazed.
Can you see it? Feel it?
We can do this at any time.
We can condition ourselves to find rejection funny.
No one has the power to diminish your self-esteem like you think they do.
Knowing this — internalising it — you have freedom.
I created an entire module on handling rejection in my latest mini-course for Ember subscribers. There are 8 other modules.
It is the course on developing a rock-solid mindset as a creator. When you get your mindset right, all the usual blocks to consistent self-expression and action-taking fall away.
Unnecessary procrastination falls away. You actually want to create and publish. You want to get yourself out there.
Your business grows because you can't grow if you're weighed down by irrational thoughts.
The Creator's Mindset Blueprint course shows you how to develop the mindset you need to thrive. All it requires is a series of insights to quickly rewire your mind.
Like all monthly Ember mini-courses, I'm releasing it for a day only this Friday, 21st Feb, to Ember subscribers.
