I'm watching my favourite writers become boring

(Psst, you don't have to be)

It happened slowly, then all at once.

A big part of this is that they're using AI to write their entire posts now. It's easy to tell, and it gets on my nerves.

Now, I don't hate AI. I'm not in that crowd. Use it. It is helpful.

The problem is that when I know something is purely AI-written, to me, that signals that little thought has gone into it. EVEN if they spent ages writing a good set of prompts.

It just feels lazy and devoid of any human spirit.

At least edit out the telltale AI phrases like 'But here's the big difference:'

When I know something is purely AI-written, I switch off. I don't want to read it.

The writing might be good. It may transmit the message fine.

But it won't make me feel much, if anything.

Mainly because I'm still stewing over the fact that you decided to use AI to replace your voice completely.

Again, AI can be an excellent tool. But the risk for you is that it can make you boring and push people away if you get lazy with it.

Boring doesn't grow audiences.

Understanding how NOT to be boring is therefore essential.

How not to be boring when you create things for people to consume?

You need to study what actually grabs attention, and practice doing it yourself.

And, by the way, interesting does NOT need to be that you did something particularly wild recently.

It's about how you frame the event. For example, I wrote about dog hair building up on my doormat recently, and it was interesting because it was quirky and relatable, and ultimately shared a universal lesson about the power of mundanity.

It's this kind of specific, relatable, and ideally recent detail that creates a tangible image.

People can almost reach out and touch it. THAT's non-boring writing.

So, rather than getting complacent and outsourcing your whole brain to a robot, be bold and talk about the small, everyday things that happened to you recently.

Start with a sentence. Then allow the momentum to carry you through.

That's how the reader connects. They zero in on an interesting image, carried by your energy.

If this idea made sense to you, and you'd like the best kind of support as you build your online readership, you might be interested in my course: Online Writing Alchemy.

The course guides you through all the best things (like the above) that I learned over 15 years of online writing, so you don't have to guess.

The course helps you stand out in an AI-slop world, because we focus on what actually moves people.

When you know HOW to move someone, you'll be FAR more likely to actually WANT to write every day, because you start to fall in love with it.

Give yourself this advantage. Make a real dent with your writing in 2026.
