I'm 42 and I just discovered slippers
-
I finally hauled my arse to a massage in Sofia the other day after months of tense hunching.
It was one of the best I'd had in years, taking me right back to my three-massages-per-week days when I lived in Ho Chi Minh City over a decade ago.
Back when massages were as affordable as a matcha latte.
But the place has a spa, and I needed to drop in there, too, which meant I needed flip-flops.
Flip-flops I didn't have.
I went shopping that morning but couldn't find any, so I ended up settling for an ugly pair of those sports slip-on slide things.
I bought them anyway because I needed something on my feet within the hour.
Now I wear them everywhere indoors, and I'm in love.
I can't believe I've spent 42 years thinking slippers were for grandpas.
I'm buying a car this week, and all I can think about are these glorious slippers.
This special chapter in my life has me thinking about how many things I've avoided for years because of some silly assumption I made when I was a spotty 18-year-old and never questioned.
I avoided the gym for nearly a decade because I decided it was for meatheads.
I avoided writing online because I assumed you needed clever-sounding credentials.
I avoided asking for help because I thought it made you look weak.
Every single one of those assumptions cost me YEARS.
The Art of Self-Respect is the book I wrote for sorting out exactly this.
People continually write to me thanking me for this book.
(Like this one from Jamey: 'I treasured this book of incredibly succinct and helpful insight. I'm sure I'll be returning to it again and again.')
It shows you the 25 habits that rebuild how you see yourself so the assumptions lose their grip and you actually start doing the things you've been putting off.
Peace and slippers,
Alex
