I couldn't stop seeing bears

-

Last night, I couldn't stop seeing bears.

Except, it was in my imagination.

This is what happens when you obsess over something that won't necessarily arrive.

I'm on day 9 of a multi-week road trip from Bulgaria through Romania to Poland and back. I'm in the western Carpathians of Romania right now.

Yesterday, ignoring all the best pieces of advice from friends and Romanians about bear activity in this part of the world, I camped deep off-road by a forest.

(I bought me some very expensive bear spray.)

I've always wanted to see this part of the world, and I decided to take on the small risk that a bear would waddle its way onto my camp.

Thankfully, not this time.

Even when I was sure it would happen, cooking pork and rice for dinner, I had the place to myself.

It was beautiful.

But it also got me thinking about the power of obsessing over something.

Like a goal.

Whenever I obsess over anything - positive or negative - the brain switches into gear. It shows you everything related to achieving this goal.

So, if you're worried about bears, you'll see and hear signs of them everywhere.

The same applies to a juicy goal to aim for.

When I obsessively committed, for example, to building an illustration career from scratch in my twenties, I was working with top clients within 6 months, including the BBC and Mars.

What single positive thing could you obsess over for the next, say, 3 months that would change your life?

Get uncommonly focused on something, take small daily actions, and watch how things seem to fall on your lap...

If you'd like to use that obsessive focus to build a career around your writing, or sell more books, you'll love my latest book as a companion for your adventure...

The Never-Retired Writer shows you exactly what I did to build a career around small, daily writings that allows me to do what I love and work from anywhere.

Much love and bears,

Alex
