I already broke my 2025 resolution
. . .
This year, I committed to going on long daily walks.
Long walks rarely fail to energise me, calm my active mind, fill me with creative insights, and ensure I sleep better.
Yesterday, I broke that commitment. I rushed.
I saw a walk as a distraction from my work and delayed it until late.
By then, it was cold, dark, and unappealing.
I came back home thinking, ‘Well that was a waste of time.’
Then I realised:
When we treat the things that matter as afterthoughts, they lose their joy.
Whether it’s walking, writing, or spending time with loved ones, these activities often get postponed for the seemingly ‘urgent.’
But instead of seeing these activities as chores or obligations, what if we turned them into highlights of the day?
What if they were the day’s ‘special treat?’
You can do this by asking: ‘What would this look like if it were fun?’
Suddenly, you are flooded with all kinds of great creative insights about the beauty of walking (in this case).
Walks can be adventures. They make me look better. They make me more intelligent. They are opportunities to discover new parts of the city.
Think about what you’ve been putting off.
What are your non-negotiables, and how can you breathe life back into them?
They deserve more respect, let’s face it.
It might be writing, reading, or tackling a project you’ve been meaning to start.
What if you approached it with creative curiosity instead of seeing it as a task to endure?
That’s a cheat code.
This shift doesn’t just apply to walking. It’s been a game-changer for my writing as well.
That’s exactly what Online Writing Alchemy is about. It’s not about discipline or rigid routines. It’s about finding the fun and creativity in writing so that it becomes something you want to do.
And when you love it, so do your readers.
Until we meet again,
Alex
