I almost didn't finish my book
most people will never cure their procrastination
This summer, I was 95% done with my new book, The Never Retired Writer.
95%. So close, but not a whole book anyone could enjoy yet.
And then... I simply stopped working on it. For over two weeks.
I found other things to do.
The seemingly important urgent crap that means nothing in a year.
Meanwhile, the book gathered cobwebs. A book that could improve the lives of tens of thousands of people.
Even if in a small way.
Ignored.
One morning, I was lying in bed, looking at my ceiling, and it hit me.
What the hell was I doing?
The book had to be finished.
Why was I pissing about tending to random emails?
I knew what had happened, though.
I'd slipped back into listening to one of the very beliefs I continually teach writers to overcome:
"It needs to be perfect before I ship it."
I reflected on this for a while. I challenged the validity of this statement.
It didn't take long for me to remember why I'm in this game.
It's to get my ideas out there, even if the package they're contained in (the book) is not 100% perfect.
Far better than an idea that sits in a dark desk drawer.
When I realised this real truth, I wrote the rest of the book, and it was done in a matter of days.
I had barely any resistance. I actually enjoyed it.
That's the power of beliefs.
They're so sneaky that you can teach them to hundreds of people and still get caught by them if you're not paying attention.
BUT, once you know how to spot and challenge them, you can course-correct fast.
You don't stay stuck for months like I might have done years ago. You catch it, update the software, and continue moving forward.
The next time you feel resistance to creating and releasing anything, ask yourself this:
"What am I believing right now that's making this feel hard?"
Name it. Question that sucker. Is it actually true?
That simple practice, just noticing the belief, can start to loosen its grip.
You might catch yourself thinking "I need to feel inspired first" or "what will people think?" or "I don't have time."
The moment you name it, you're no longer trapped by it. You can question it, update it, and lean into motion again.
If you want the full process that dissolved these beliefs for me and hundreds of clients, I've distilled it into The Procrastination Cure for Writers.
2026 is weeks away. I want as many writers as possible to start the new year clear of resistance, with a writing habit that generates income and earns them recognition.
The course guides you through the six core beliefs that keep writers stuck, with specific exercises that help your brain recognise that these thoughts were never true.
That's what makes the shift permanent.
This is not how most procrastination courses typically work, which often focus on tactics that are easily forgotten. This course is about evidence-based questioning of beliefs that can change instantly.
Very different.
The course is normally $279, but until 5pm ET, this Sunday 16th November, it's only $79 for a Winter sale.
After that, it closes for months.
What you get: The 6-belief rewiring process you can complete in 2-4 hours.
End procrastination today, so you can publish consistently and turn your message into an income stream.
Much love,
Alex
