How to progress when others want to quit
. . .
I wrote a post that received a snarky comment.
I read that comment.
Then I re-read it.
Then I immediately packed my bags in a rage and moved to the Peruvian mountains to be a hermit.
Then I took a breath and reminded myself that getting snarky comments is part of the game as a creator or writer.
In fact, it’s a good thing.
If you don’t receive these comments regularly, it’s a sign you’re probably playing it too safe.
And when you play it safe, your content is vanilla to most people.
Bold content = faster brand AND personal growth.
You want your words to connect deeply with a handful, while pushing away the rest.
Snarky or judgemental comments are a sign you’re on the right track.
It might sting initially, and you may be tempted to argue.
But the sign of a mature creator who will go places is to create stuff that’s good, that not everyone will like, while also being a badass about how you deal with those comments.
You either ignore, or you’re respectful.
That’s why creating things in public has been one of the best things for my own growth.
I’ve written thousands of online articles and emails and have received literally thousands of snarky and even angry comments.
I’m a different person than I was 5 years ago because I’m willing to look like a dork in public and remain stoic in the face of lame comments.
Expect the trolls and the disagreement.
Fearing this is why many quit.
But you’re different.
