How I saved over 20 hours per week.

. . .

I remember sitting on my sofa, biting my nails.

I’d just received an email asking if I’d like to give a talk in Barcelona in a few months.

It took me a full three days to reply.

I didn’t feel like I could do it. I’d had little experience.

What if I looked stupid?

I sent the email with a gulp.

Three months later, I stepped off the stage. The talk wasn’t the best in the world, but I’d done it.

But I’d also spent the last three months worrying.

Not planning my talk.

Not writing.

Not working on my next book.

Worrying.

It shocked me how many hours I’d dedicated trying to control something in my head that couldn’t be controlled.

I’d lost hundreds of hours to worry.

And it took away from my ability to deliver a great talk.

And this is coming from a guy who’d read hundreds of self-help books on mindset and anxiety.

It clearly hadn’t helped.

It took me some years since then to understand why so many of us suffer unnecessarily from worry or doubt and the lost time this causes.

It was never about adopting some clever ‘anxiety hack’ like imagining the worst that could happen.

That just made me even more self-conscious.

It’s about what we believe is true.

I learned one simple thing:

Worry is simply a misuse of our imagination.

We don’t ever need to worry because all it does is make us feel bad.

As soon as you see that, there’s no longer any internal drive to do it.

There’s never been a time in history when worry helped anyone. Seeing this gave me instant relief.

What, you mean I don’t NEED to worry?

Heck no, bro. Not when you understand what’s happening.

Today, when something scares me, I feel it, but I don’t dwell.

I do not allow myself to buy into unhelpful thoughts because that is all they are.

Approximations of truth.

Never the actual truth.

Doubtful worry wastes time.

Realise you can turn away from worry at any moment, replacing that time with constructive work, or simply relaxing in the present.

When you’re calm, the insights you need will come to you.

If you like this idea, and you get why this kind of understanding will change your life in a profound way...

You’ll love my Untethered Mind course if you haven’t already grabbed it.

The course guides you through a sequence of necessary realisations about thought that help it stick.

So you never need to use any clever tactics anymore. You just need what I had - which is understanding.

Love, Alex
