A guy I know used to run a growing coaching business.
He was sharp, good at what he did, and beginning to land five-figure deals.
He was living his dream of working for himself, with the leverage of working from wherever he wanted.
But then he got offered a job he couldn’t refuse.
Which he took.
And for the following months, he took his attention off his online coaching business.
He didn’t nurture his network and didn’t post any more content.
I told him to keep writing, even at a slower pace, but he didn’t.
Now, he’s without his job (made redundant) and starting from scratch with his audience.
The lesson of this tale?
It’s one I learned through many painful months in my own career with very little money coming in.
You don’t wait until you need clients to build your audience.
You build an audience first, and the clients come once they get to know you.
In a world where jobs are becoming increasingly precarious, you’ll want to learn how to create your own opportunities.
No longer reliant on a boss who can dump you at any moment.
But your own clients and buyers.
And you can coach people in whatever area you have some expertise in, as long as you’re a couple of steps ahead.
That means building your brand, audience, network - whatever you want to call it.
And one of the best ways to get started is through writing.
You don’t need to write well to start.
Practice, share and learn about what works.
Many options: Write on Linkedin, Twitter, Substack, Medium, Quora.
Bring them to your newsletter.
And from there you can sell your products and services or simply bring awareness to your cause.
It can take only a few months to start seeing results here.
Even if you don’t need clients now, you may just need them in the future.
Create security for your future self, by building an audience that has your back.
If you’d like to save years of frustration (that I went through), by learning how to write in a way that builds your audience much faster...
