Great writing isn’t about showing off.

What holds you back from writing?

One of you shared something interesting with me.

You said:

‘I worry that I will sound too self-righteous.’

I’ve been there.

And I’ve heard others share similar doubts, like:

‘I don’t want my boss thinking I’m weird.’

‘I have this fear of putting myself out there.’

Regardless of the flavour of your concerns, they all share a common thread...

All are forms of self-censorship.

All are rooted in fearful thoughts that keep us stuck, blocked and small.

Self-censorship stops you from being the writer your tribe needs.

I always had that empty, dull sense until I learned to push past that fear of self-expression.

The way I did it was to have these various doubts, and...

To do the thing anyway.

One of the best ways to overcome fear is to take regular, tiny steps towards what you know you want to do but feel some trepidation.

That includes creating and sharing anything in public.

The more you do it, the more you realise you can do it (without dying), and the more daring you become.

This is pure self-growth in action.

So don’t hold yourself back, even if it feels uncomfortable.

Lean in with tiny exposures.

The best way to be a writer is to write.
