Doing this will give you a serious edge in the coming years.
(And it’s not AI)
‘But why quit watching TV shows when it’s an escape from bad thoughts?’
‘mHmmm. Agreed.’
This was from a recently overheard conversation on a train in the UK.
This says a lot about not only how fried our minds are with endless distractions and entertainment…
But also how so many of us have forgotten the value of doing a whole lot of nothing.
TV may be an escape, but it denies you something I believe will give you an edge in the coming years:
Absent-mindedness.
Allowing our minds to wander, free of artificial stimulation.
This isn’t about being brain-dead. It’s about letting our minds do their thing on autopilot without interference.
Day-dreaming gives us room to make connections, to let creativity unfold, to find solutions to problems without pushing.
Numerous studies confirm the power of ‘mind-wandering.’
For example, a recent study from Eötvös Loránd University in Hungary found that allowing your mind to wander while engaged in a simple task improves learning.
The problem these days is our resistance to doing anything that seems ‘pointless.’
We get bored easily. Our attention spans are zapped. We have a billion options for entertainment.
Very few of us spend thirty minutes just lying on the sofa, thinking, with no freaking music.
But I believe donating some time each day to such relaxed, mindless wandering, ESPECIALLY in a high-stimulation AI world, will give us a tremendous edge.
It makes us more productive, creative, and insightful.
And, perhaps best of all, it is a mood-booster.
Try it.
Guilt-free absent-mindedness isn’t a nice option.
I believe it’s a must.
My Untethered Mind course, by the way, helps reduce stress by over 90% in a matter of days or less.
When you can manage stress like a pro, and combine it with daily ‘absent-mindedness,’ you might just find you’re unstoppable.
