Do you really need to write more?

Never Retired Writer book releasing soon.

Dan Koe posted this on Substack recently, and I agreed:

"You need to write more. Without AI. Without templates. Without knowing what you're writing about. Just you, an idea, and enough time to do the difficult cognitive work necessary to reach true understanding. If you don't, your ability to think will drastically decline."

I've been writing online almost daily for 16 years, and he's right.

When I don't write for a week or two, I can feel my thinking getting tangled.

Ideas that were clear start circling in my head, tying themselves into knots, and my conversations with other humans get clumsy.

Writing is how I lay everything out on the page, sort through the mess, and reformulate my thoughts into sentences that make sense.

It's mind therapy with a side benefit of catharsis.

There's real neuroscience behind this, too. Studies on handwriting and typing show that writing activates brain regions involved in memory, motor planning, and language processing.

The slower, more deliberate act of getting words onto the page builds the neural pathways that make you a sharper thinker in every other area of your life.

Writing keeps your brain awake.

In a world where most people numb themselves with passive scrolling and overstimulation, the person who writes daily becomes an outlier.

You'll think more clearly, solve problems faster, and feel more energised every day, because creative output is one of the rare things the modern world hasn't figured out how to take from you yet.

Writing in the coming years doesn't only bring you career security and visibility to the right people, but also mental strength and cognitive benefits.

These benefits are what got me hooked in the first place. Writing is how I stay sharp, stay calm, and stay myself in a world that feels like it's losing its mind.

This is why I wrote ‘The Never-Retired Writer.’

The book contains 62 chapters on building a writing life that gives you income, freedom, mental resilience, and a skill AI can't replace.

I'm launching it on Amazon this Saturday, April 25th, at 9am ET, for just $0.99 during a special 3-day launch window before it goes up to $9.99.

Watch your inbox on Saturday morning so you can grab it at launch price.

Love and writing and stuff,
