‘Confidence’ was never the problem

The online writing course for beginners is closing...

I'm writing this from Heraklion, Crete. I came here to escape the Warsaw winter and write my first novel.

The first couple of days in a new place feel like learning life from scratch. I’d sit at home looking out at the city with wide eyes, like a scared cat.

There's no one to guide you. You have to figure out the shops, pick up basic Greek phrases, and work out the road system and public transport.

Without the familiarity of home, I felt like I'd lost my confidence.

Then I bought groceries at a supermarket. I spent a couple of hours at the archaeological museum. I found a cafe where I could take notes and eat a croissant in the sun for a while.

These are not a big deal for most. But they are a big deal when there is uncertainty and a perceived lack of self-confidence.

Doing these ‘easy’ things creates momentum, which leads to that confident feeling.

I felt better after a few days of doing these simple things.

I'm obviously still a Heraklion beginner.

Everyone’s going to be a beginner at things if they continue trying new things.

The mistake was thinking I needed to feel confident BEFORE I could act. This stalls most mere mortals.

It can even cut them off from doing the thing they’ve been dreaming of doing all their lives.

Writing works the same way.

People wait until they feel confident.

But confidence was never the issue. Momentum was.

If you want to develop your confidence in online writing with guidance, you might be interested in my Confident Writer course.

Closing today.

The course shows you how to:

- Figure out what the heck to write about.
- Who to write for.
- How to develop a rock-solid daily habit.
- How to grow your first 1000 readers online.

It's open now at $87, down from $197.

But it closes today at 3pm ET. Then it's gone for several weeks.
