Alex, please stop emailing me

-

This is the response I fear every time I sit down to write an email.

But by entertaining this fear, I am also censoring myself.

Having the fear gives me an excuse to avoid writing today.

And when I don’t write today, one potentially useful idea is kept locked away, never to be seen.

It may not seem like a big deal...

Until you look deep within yourself and ponder for a moment on all the things you currently know that will help another human.

They may be confused. They may be alone. They may feel lost. They may be close to the end.

You will find that thing, and when you don’t share it, when you could have otherwise done so:

You’re censoring yourself.

Moving past self-censorship allows truth to be shared.

And without that, the world ends. Literally.

People are not encouraged and led when leaders self-censor out of fear.

Businesses stall and close because of self-censorship.

Our children’s development is stunted when their parents self-censor and do not say what needs to be said.

Sharing when we’d otherwise hold back has its drawbacks, though.

Many won’t like what you have to say.

Many will be telling you, as they do with me, to stop sharing. To write shorter. To stop writing so much.

And that’s to be expected.

It’s part of the reason we censor in the first place.

But who will have the final say? You, or the naysayers?

Believe in your damn message, and shake off the fear, once and for all.

Rather than getting caught up in all your concerns for what many people will inevitably think and say about your message...

Commit to a system.

I write daily emails.

That’s my system.

It keeps my purpose and my business ticking.

The system is there; and there’s no second-guessing any more.

I just show up, regardless of how I feel in those first few seconds, and I write. And I hit publish.

And then I get back to eating apple crisps.

Screw the fears. They’re always subjective and usually based on bullshit.

Focus on your system.

If you’d like to defy your doubts, amplify a sense of meaning in your life, and write without censoring yourself...

You’ll want to grab my expensive-for-a-reason course on writing that grows your movement: Online Writing Alchemy.

Available today, at this price, before I raise it, which I will eventually.
